03/ 01/ 04 Cows are already helping: Half a million crowns raised for education
A life-size white sculpture of a cow, donated by CowParade, was auctioned off at Saturday evening's gala at the International School of Prague (ISP). The highest bidders on the cow were Jan Sıkora from the brokerage company Wood&Company and Imran T. Rawji, the owner of the TIMBUKTOO fashion company. The money will go to the ISP's Foundation Fund for Education. "We are extremely pleased that the proceeds from the auction of the cow, which CowParade generously donated to us to offer grants to schools, projects or organizations that promote educational reform in the Czech Republic," said ISP director Robert Landau. Terrence Valeski, CEO and Managing Director of Eurotel Praha, said, "This is the largest sum CowParade has ever raised via auction for a completely undecorated cow. The fact that this money has been earmarked for education underscores the potential impact of CowParade Prague 2004. We believe the closing auction of decorated cows will meet with similar success."
The auction was a pre-premiere, which gave an indication of the importance and orientation of this summer's CowParade Prague 2004 show. The event is to combine street art entertainment with charity activities. During the first week of this June, Prague will become the stage for the unique world 'open air' Cowparade project, which is to be held under the auspices of the Prague City Council. Two hundred life-size cow sculptures, colourfully created by local renowned and debuting artists, are to be placed over the course of four months in frequented and tourist-attractive places in the centre of Prague. Some of the cows will then be auctioned off to benefit children's charities.
